Jung Versus Freud

(Pervin & Cervone, 2010) Jung initial reason to split from Freud’s in his perspective was due to Freud’s over emphasized sexuality (libido).
Whereas Jung described libido was life energy but not a sexual instinct, and that is first difference that separates Jung’s analytic psychology from Freud’s psychoanalysis (Pervin & Cervone, 2010).
Whereas Freud's point of view to the real reason was due to Jung’s oedipal feelings towards Freud (Pervin & Cervone, 2010).Jung became interested in psychiatry as a result of his expanding studies in area's such as religion, mythology, spiritualism and the nature of the soul. When Freud spoke about the Oedipal complex he focused on the sexuality of the disorder. However, Jung saw the complex as a need for spiritual re-birth as one entered the place of one's creation.
(Pervin & Cervone, 2010) Jung suggested that Freud’s over stated view on behavior was just a repetition of past urges and suppression of childhood being re in- acted in later life, whereas Jung’s view was that individual’s personality develops in future perceiving movement, as finding one’s self deemed important to develop.
(Beebe, Cambray, & Kirsch, 2001) if a dream is not completely implicit Jungian analyst will rely on the patient's links to reveal the reason rather than assuming what they are on the basis of theory and suggestive elements in the dream itself, whereas Freud (Pervin & Cervone, 2010) believes that dreams have two levels manifest and latent content which suggests that dreams are the unconscious wishes being fulfilled that are not acceptable in normal day life.
Jung was the first and most important perspective to opposed Freud’s view and broke new ideas which allowed other approaches to develop unlike Freud, Jung took a keenness to accept or conceive more mystical and spiritual aspects of personality which contributed to existential-humanistic approaches (Friedman& Shustask, 2006).
